The post of Lokayukta in Gujarat had been lying vacant since November 2003 last incumbent being S.M. Soni. Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi had a major setback as the state High Court upheld the appointment of Justice (retired) R.A. Mehta as the state Lokayukta by governor Kamala Beniwal last year.
BJP Reaction : As expected BJP reacted by the trade mark reference of Center interfering with State subject thereby endangering the Federal structure if the Country.
Any Moderate Indian would think what is wrong if Lokayuktha in Gujarat is headed by even Digvijay Singh?. After all BJP or the Modi Govt should be worried only if they have something to hide. If the Modi Govt which has been a Role Model to the other states in terms of Governance, Reforms and Investments it should have little significance on who is heading the Lokayukta? Let the Govt carry on with its development activities. BJP is on defensive because they had this Idiotic Caste baste Yedurappa who had tarnished the image of BJP and Lokayukta was responsible for it.
By no stretch of imagination we expect BJP to take it all lying down but the crux of the matter BJP is giving more ammunition to the deluge Congress. Excepting the Hard Core BJP followers others might take that BJP is into double stand when it comes to Lokpal.
If going by Mr Jaitley argument ( I admire him the most ) every state the Governor will play a role in the appointment of Lokayukta , does it mean need to lock horns with Congress every time.
t took eternal time for BJP to sack him straight away when LOKAYUKTHA Indicted him. This is the time when BJP gaining the Middle class and the Moderate people back into its fold. It should not only preach Congress on corruption but also act on its Own Party's regional Corrupt Politicians. Had it not been for the Media crucifying Yedurappa I believe BJP would still be mulling over him. This visibly shows the dissent among the various Second line leaders in the rank of BJP.
After his removal as CM , Mr Yedurappa tried all tricks in the Book to get back his control in the party and even threatened to start his own Party. No wonder what caste based Politician can go to the extent just because they knew their caste community would follow them blindly.
